Mission Overview

Mission 6 shifts from counting to early literacy. Children meet familiar zoo animals and spell their names along with the PicTrain. Repetition, visual animal cues, and spoken letter names help build alphabet fluency and word awareness. The lesson is not intended to require independent conventional spelling from every preschool learner; rather, it introduces the idea that words are made of ordered letters.

This Parent & Teacher Mission Guide is designed for use after or alongside the PicTrain video. Adjust the pace, level of independence, and amount of repetition to fit the child. Young learners may demonstrate understanding orally, through movement, with manipulatives, or by pointing rather than through written work.

Mission Learning Sequence

1. Prepare

2. Watch and Participate

• Pause after short words such as LION or BEAR and repeat the spelling slowly.
• Have the child point to or hold up a matching animal picture.
• Clap once for each letter in a word.
• Notice the first letter in each animal name.

3. Review and Apply

• Spell LION and BEAR together.
• Ask the child to identify the beginning letter in tiger, lion, or bear.
