Mission Overview

Mission 8 combines early spelling practice with introductory biblical literacy. Children encounter words such as LION, DEER, DONKEY, and LOCUST and learn that animals appear throughout Scripture. The guide helps adults distinguish between identifying animals mentioned in the Bible and teaching the full meaning of a biblical passage; families should read the surrounding story or verse when exploring an animal reference.

This Parent & Teacher Mission Guide is designed for use after or alongside the PicTrain video. Adjust the pace, level of independence, and amount of repetition to fit the child. Young learners may demonstrate understanding orally, through movement, with manipulatives, or by pointing rather than through written work.

Educational Objectives

Biblical Worldview Integration

Mission Learning Sequence

1. Prepare

• Place a Bible where the child can see it.
• Preview the animal words LION, DEER, DONKEY, and LOCUST.
• Explain that the Bible contains history, poetry, teaching, letters, and prophecy, and animals may appear in different ways.

2. Watch and Participate

• Spell the animal names aloud with the narrator.
• Pause to identify the first letter of each word.
• Invite the child to count the letters in selected words.
• When an animal is named, remind the child that understanding its Bible story requires reading the passage.

3. Review and Apply

• Spell LION and DEER together.
• Ask the child to name as many mission animals as possible.
• Read one short, age-appropriate Bible passage containing an animal, then discuss what happens in context.
• Thank God for His creation and for the ability to learn.

4. Mission Checkpoint

Use two or three of the review tasks immediately after the video. Keep the tone encouraging and stop before fatigue reduces the value of practice. Record whether the learner completed the task independently, with a prompt, or with direct assistance.

Informal Observation

Look for the following evidence of learning:

• Names at least three animals mentioned in the mission.
• Repeats the spelling of at least two animal words.
• Identifies the first letter of at least three words.
• States that God created animals and that Bible stories should be read in context.

Suggested Mastery Scale

Do not require perfection in a single sitting. Revisit the mission or selected activities when the child is rested and receptive.

• Bible Animal Search: During family Bible reading, listen for animal names and record them with pictures or words.
• Creation Sketch: Draw one featured animal and label it with its name.
